baby sleepingSleep Safety

Babies are safest when placed to sleep on their backs in an uncluttered crib or bassinett.  Items such as blankets, pillows, bumpers, stuffed animals or care items can be a significant risk to infants.  NEVER place an infant to sleep on an adult bed, couch, pillow or other soft surface.

Sleep sacks are a safer alternative to blankets. If you must use a blanket place the child with their feet at the foot of the bed and tuck the blanket in on both sides and the bottom with the top edge no higher then mid-chest level.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics infants should only be placed to sleep on their backs, NEVER on their side or stomach.  This includes naps as well as night time sleeping.

Tummy time is important for development but should alsway be directly supervised by a responsible adult.
