Maternal-Fetal Medicine for Complicated and High Risk Pregnancies

If you are pregnant and have diabetes, hypertension, multiple gestations or other conditions, you and your baby may be at risk. While the final outcome is usually positive for both mother and child, that’s not always the case. That’s why it’s important to consult a Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician, or perinatologist, for your high risk care.

Look for a Board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician

Many obstetricians deliver high risk obstetric care, but only those with additional fellowship training can become board-certified in this field. Georgia Regents Medical Center has two such physicians. In addition, Georgia Regents Medical Center operates one of only six state-designated Regional Perinatal Centers, to which physicians refer high risk patients.

Working in collaboration with the primary care obstetrician, our maternal-fetal medicine specialists offer:

  • Highly trained, experienced and board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialists
  • Management of pregnancy with diabetes, high blood pressure or other chronic conditions
  • Management of pregnancies with more than one baby and pregnancies in older women
  • Ancillary services to meet the needs of high risk pregnancies: dieticians, diabetes educators, nurse educators, genetic counselors, social workers and others
  • State-of-the-art ultrasound equipment including 3-D and 4-D ultrasound
  • Genetic counseling and testing and a physician geneticist
  • First Trimester prenatal diagnosis, Sequential Screening, CVS and amniocentesis
  • A Level IV (highest level) neonatal intensive care unit NICU
  • A full range of pediatric subspecialists including pediatric surgeons, pediatric cardiologists and others
  • A Regional Perinatal Center which provides care to high risk mothers and babies
  • Take a tour through our Perinatal Unit
