Identifying and Treating Hearing Problems in Children

Early identification and care for hearing problems is essential to helping children develop speech and language skills. The Pediatric Audiology program at Children’s Hospital of Georgia identifies childhood hearing loss and delivers effective rehabilitation services. The department offers:

  • Skilled and experienced audiologists who specialize in caring for children  
  • Audiometric evaluations to determine the degree and type of hearing loss
  • Tympanometry and impedance audiology to evaluate middle-ear functions
  • Central auditory processing testing to identify problems with understanding speech and following directions
  • Auditory brainstem response testing to assess hearing and brainstem function
  • Otoacoustic emission testing to detect cochlear damage
  • Hearing aids, assistive listening devices and other therapies 
  • Coordination with pediatric specialists of all types
  • Child Life Specialists to help children understand and cope with care
  • Patient Family Centered Care
