Tips for Preventing Teen Violence

  • Drop in on your child's school, and not just on parents' night. If something seems wrong, go to administrators.

  • Talk to your child's teachers. If the conduct they see differs vastly from home, that's cause for concern.

  • Know your child's friends. Maintain a climate at home that welcomes them.

  • Don't chalk up unusual behavior to a phase your child will outgrow. Talk with a pediatrician or counselor and your child.

  • Trust your guts and trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, it probably is.
