Caring for Minor Cuts

Most minor cuts and scrapes don't require medical assistance. It's safe to home-treat such injuries if:

  • The cut is less than a half-inch around.

  • There's only slight bleeding.

  • The person isn't in excessive pain and doesn't feel any numbness or tingling.

To treat a minor scrape or cut:

  • Wash the area with mild soap and water.

  • Apply an antibiotic to the area to prevent infection.

  • Cover the wound with a sterile gauze pad or adhesive bandage.
