Avoid computer games or battery-operated toys for children under age 7. Young children's play should focus on make-believe, which develops their creative-thinking skills, according to Diane Levin, Ph.D., professor of education at Wheelock College in Boston. Dolls that represent television characters, for instance, teach imitation, not creativity.
