Dealing With a Knocked-Out Tooth

If your child's permanent tooth gets knocked out, pick it up by the crown and put it in a container of low-fat milk or saline solution (not tap water), according to the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). Cover the container and give your child a gauze pad to bite down on to ease the bleeding. Or, if your child will tolerate it, gently put the tooth back in its spot and have the child bite down on a gauze pad to keep it in place. In either case, take the child (and the tooth) to the dentist as soon as possible.
