Our library staff can help you find answers, advice and information about the latest advances in cancer treatment. We also offer workshops and training centered around our patient and family centered care philosophy. The library is a valuable resource for patients as well as the entire community.
Located in the Georgia Regents University Cancer Center in Augusta, Georgia, the library focuses on all aspects of the cancer continuum, from prevention to diagnosis to treatment to quality-of-life and grief issues.
You may browse the growing collection of books and reference materials that the library has to offer. The library staff, which is comprised of a librarian, family support coordinators, and trained volunteers, is available to help you find answers to specific questions and use the computer-based search systems. The library staff also works closely with the on-site dietitian and social worker to insure that patients receive the most up-to-date information concerning nutrition and assistance.

The Resource Library offers access to two free databases.
These may be used from PCs and MACs at home or in the Resource Library.

MEDLINEplus is a consumer health site that provides links to reputable Web sites on specific diseases and to prepared literature searches from the MEDLINE database. Also featured are links to medical dictionaries, physician and hospital directories, clearinghouses, nonprofit organizations that offer information to consumers, and interactive tutorials.

PubMed is the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE database to articles from more than 4000 medical journals. It allows simple keyword searching or more complicated searches using Boolean logic. It also includes a Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) browser and a citation matcher.
Cancer Web Sites We Trust

Cancer.gov — This website provides current and accurate information from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the federal government’s principal agency for cancer research. It provides a wide range of cancer information, including treatment options, clinical trials, ways to reduce cancer risk, coping with cancer, and resources for patients and their loved ones, advocates, health professionals, and researchers. The NCI’s comprehensive cancer database, PDQ, contains peer-reviewed summaries of the latest information about cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, and supportive care, as well as a clinical trials directory. Some information is available in Spanish.

CancerCare.com — Cancer Care is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide free professional help to people with all cancers through counseling, education, information and referral, and direct financial assistance. Information is available in Spanish.
Cancer.net — This is the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) website for people living with cancer. ASCO is dedicated to helping people living with cancer find the accurate, reliable, and most importantly, oncologist-approved information they need to make informed decisions. The website is an award-winning site that currently includes more than 40 disease summaries organized by cancer type, treatment descriptions, coping strategies, reading and library resources, as well as cancer links, statistics, and a searchable drug database.

Oncolink.org — Oncolink was founded in 1994 University of Pennsylvania cancer specialists to help cancer patients, families, health care professionals, and the general public get free and accurate cancer-related information. Easy to use information on all aspects of cancer is updated every day and is provided at various levels, from introductory to in-depth.

American Cancer Society — The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization. ACS’s website is an important extension of the Society’s mission to provide lifesaving information to the public. The site includes an interactive cancer resource center containing in-depth information on every major cancer type. Other useful sections on the website include a directory of medical resources and links to other sites organized by cancer type or topic. Some information is available in Spanish.
