Weight Loss Surgery Payment Options

Health Insurance

Some insurance companies will pay for weight loss surgery if you meet all requirements.

Most insurance companies will require documentation that you have participated in a weight loss program that is supervised by a physician for 3-6 months. Documentation of a nutrition and exercise program will be required.

Even if your insurance company pays for your weight loss surgery and hospital expenses, it may not pay for all of the consultations and studies that are required before surgery. If this is the case, those expenses will be your responsibility.

You will be required to document weight loss before your surgery using a low calorie diet and exercise. The cost for this program may not be covered by your health insurance and may be a direct expense to you.

Self-Pay Option

If your insurance plan does not cover weight loss surgery, the only option is for patients to pay for the operation themselves. If you have no insurance coverage for weight loss surgery, we recommend you start with one of our free informational seminars to learn more about weight loss surgery and your options.

Following the seminar, you will be scheduled for a consultation with our weight loss center team. At the time of your consulation, you will complete any needed medical work-up (maybe covered by health insurance).

Our self-pay option fee covers the cost of your hospital stay, surgeon and anesthesia fee, and follow-up after surgery for 90 days. If you are a LapBand patient, your 90 days free follow-up also covers any needed band adjustments.

The self-pay fee does not cover any additional hospitalization that may result from a complication after surgery. If your primary health insurance does not cover the cost of your weight loss surgery, they also will not cover the cost of any complications that occur after your surgery. Because you are responsible for the cost of any possible complications that may occur, we recommend that you purchase a supplemental health insurance plan that is designed to cover the cost of complications that may occur after weight loss surgery.
