Dr. Christopher W.  Cutler joined the Department of Periodontics as Department Chair on September 1, 2011.  He was previously on staff at SUNY-Stony Brook, School of Dental Medicine, where he was Associate Dean for Research.

Dr. Cutler received his Doctor of Dental Surgery, his Periodontics Certificate and his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from Emory University.  He is board certified in Periodontology.  Dr Cutler is principal investigator in numerous NIH/NIDCR grants, focusing on dendritic cell-pathogen interactions in chronic periodontitis and in coronary artery disease pathogenesis. He has served on multiple study sections at NIH/NIDCR and serves on Editorial boards of Infection and Immunity, Current Immunology Reviews, Journal of Periodontology, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and Journal of Dental Research.
