Black History Month

Dr. George Stoney helped establish the Lamar Hospital, the black hospital. The results of his research on tropical diseases during the Spanish American War laid the foundation for treatments. He cofounded the Stoney Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Society and the National Medical Association, which still exist. A Georgia Health Sciences University building is named in his honor.
